With the DVR 6412 would I be able to listen to like a football game on CBS that is in Dolby Digital 5.1 without using a HDTV?

I will be getting comcast. And I have a Dolby Digital Stereo

I'm sure that the 6412 will output a standard def video signal, so yes you could listen to DD 5.1 and watch the game in SD. But, I defer to users of that box for the real answer. :)

BTW, it's Dolby, not Dobly. :) One typo I could see, but not three. :D

I don't know if this has any bearing on your question, but when I first got Directv before getting HD, I already had a surround sound system, and there was a choice of getting a SD satellite receiver with Dolby Digital capabilites; with this, I was able to get DD on some programs, but I think it was mostly (maybe only) movies on HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc.. I don't think there were any SD network broadcasts in DD.

I don't know if comcast broadcasts any SD programs with DD, but if they do and the receiver supports DD, then you should be able to get it.

Deleting off topic posts and moving to non-HDTV forum.

And to answer the question, Yes.

while you may be able to listen to it, that would only be possible by tuning to the hd channel, in which case you wouldn't be able to watch it at the same time.
