I had tried the zenith 230 hdtv dvr. Besides having only 8 hr capacity, its big flaw, as far as I was concerned, was that I could not watch a recorded program while it was recording another.

The directv version of Tivo DVR with dusl ota tuners is excellent but I don't have directv.

Are there any upcoming stand alone DVRs for OTA reception?

audvid - check out the "Sony Unveils HD Digital Recorders" thread under HDTV Recorders & Players. There's some info on the forthcoming Sonys there as well as a little info. on the following:

I have been patiently waiting for these units to come out.

Is there any alternative for wanting a OTA HDTV DVR?

As I understand it, the options would pretty much be the following:

RCA DVR10: 80G HD. No tuner, uses firewire and the TV's clock for timer. 80G HD. Not sure if you can still buy these new.

Zentih HDR230: 80G HD. Includes single tuner, no firewire. No longer available new and tough to find used.

LG 3410a: 120 G HD. The HDR230's successor. Includes single tuner, w/firewire. Can still buy new, though I believe its availability (and price) is waning.

I don't own any of the above - sounds like they all have their quirks (to put in kindly in some cases).

Other than that, there are some DVHS models with the ability to record HD OTA, but I don't know much about them.
