I've been a DirecTivo user for quite a few years, but I'm considering switching to a PC based PVR. It seems that the technology is good enough now to give me an experience similar to the DirecTivo. My major concern is that it will be more difficult for my family to use. I'm planning to build a machine with a WinTV-PVR-500MCE card. Have a couple questions, though.

Is XP MCE a must or would I get just as good a result by running something like BeyondTV on 2000 or XP?

How important is the PC? I was thinking of using a Dell SC420 server with 512 MB ram and a Celeron 2.53GHz processor. It's cheap, but very powerful and reliable. Will this be sufficient?

If It ain't broke, I'll break it.
