Hi, I am new so I hope this is okay to post here.

I am looking to build a pvr sometime in the future and was helping some of you guys could help me. I am a techie person, but a little out of the loop in this area, so I can build stuff if I know where to find the resources.

Basically what I would like to do is build a pvr as cheaply as possibly but still have the functionality I need. I do, however, have some limitations. Here is what I would like:

Record tv/watch tv
Watch dvds
burn dvds

I have seen a little info on the nonmyth stuff, but don't know a lot about it. My major limitation though is that I do not have dedicated internet at home. I CAN dial up if I have to though. So my question is this, can you build a pvr and record on a timer basis as opposed to having a guide? Or could you dial in and download a guide online like once a week? Also another point to note is that I do not have cable, so all my recording would be over the air, which as far as I have heard, is not a problem. At this point I was planning on going the linux route, just would like to know what all work may be involved to accomplish this. Thanks very much for your help and for excusing a newbie.

Hello? Surely someone could answer this? Or tell me I'm in the wrong place?
