I have a Motorola DCT6400 provided to me by Comcast that I use to download shows. I noticed that it has a USB input on the front so I was wondering if I could connect the DVR to my CPU and upload some of the recorded shows I have. Is this fairly simple to do?

the box has USB, firewire, etc. it would be great, if at the very least we could connect it to an external harddrive for additonal storage.. I saw an ad today for a 160 GB harddrive for $49....that'd be a decent amount of HD content....

I haven't seen any instructions on how to connect them though - please post if you find anything

The USB input is not functional and its just designed as an input for peripherals like a keyboard, not for outputting recorded video, only a firewire port could do that, but I don't believe its supported and in any case PCs don't support the proper encrypted protocol for DVR firewire ports - you need a DVHS VCR for that.

The firewire has been hacked. Search around, there's like a 70 page post here about it.

You can stream HD to your PC, and even record it. As long as the show doesn't ahve the Copyright bit set (i.e. only OTA channels has no copyright bit).

I'd be doing it, but my DVR is like 28' away. That's an expensive firewire cable.

If you can get it three feet closer, you can get a 25 foot cable for 10 bucks: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16812149012
