The internal IDE controller in the Phase 1 and 2 DCT6412 will not support a HDD larger than 137GB but it *should* be possible to add a 2nd 120GB drive by running an IDE cable out of the box ;) - I will try this and report back.

The USB ports are not operational and the firewire port only outputs transport-stream video/audio.

The "new" Phase III unit may be a different story with the SATA I port although that port is inop as well at this time.

I don't know whether the internal drive is still IDE or SATA; perhaps someone could advise.

Great! Someone that has an extra hard drive and isnt afraid to open there box!

Please tell us and if it works, take lots of pics!

You are a going to be a hero if it works (to me anyways :p)

And while you are at it, slam that bad mamajama (6412 HDD) into your computer and see if you can read the video files, as i am interested in that too

Thanks a Million!

taking this as a grain of salt... If the comment that the os can only address 137Gb then it is to be assumed that the os is linux based? if true then the HD cannot just be added w/o expanding the original HD volume to include the new HD and the new HD can not have ever been attached to a windoes computer! very important this is. So, this needs to be approached like a tivo upgrade in my mind and doing so on a $1K box you're renting seems like a roulette roll. I've been successful with tivo upgrades and also had some that fail.

It's not an OS issue, it's a controller issue.
