i switched to digital cable a couple months ago and i have a question about the sa8300 dvr that i got. i was told by the technician that the sata port is activate in the back. so my question is how can i access all the recorded shows on the harddrive through my computer? someone told me i could get a esata cable to access the recordings, but i don't really know how. so please, any help is appreciated.

The SATA port isn't for accessing information on the internal drive to a computer, its for adding an extra additional external SATA harddrive. This is only supported by SATA-based cable systems for now. A firewire port is needed to record internally recorded programs to an external DVHS recorder, but again not to a computer.
