Theres noway to "upload" video into the dvr, but there's ways to "download" from it to a pc using the firewire port.

There are at least three different resident apps that can run on the Motorola DCT-6412. The resident app is basically the majority of software that you see on the box (guide, recording functionality, etc.) although perhaps not all (VOD and other iTV applications may be something different).

Pioneer Passport is one of them ...

Guideworks (Gemstar/Comcast) iGuide:
http://www.i-guide.tv/
Notes - Guideworks is a jointly owned by Comcast (51%) and Gemstar (49%)

Aptiv Passport Echo:
http://www.pioneerbroadband.com/pass...ssportecho.asp
Notes - Aptiv was spun off from Pioneer Broadband

Microsoft TV Foundation Edition:
http://www.microsoft.com/tv/FoundationEdition.mspx

So ... since there is different software that runs on these boxes (with very different functionality) it is often very helpful to note which (and which version and/or what cable company and/or location).

Comcast uses the iGuide on most of its Motorola plants (the main exception I know of being a small Microsoft trial in the Seattle area). There is a very long thread on the iGuide/6412 combination:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&&#post4594762

The manuals are available in various locations ... including the Motorola site:
http://broadband.motorola.com/consum...eEntertainment
For example, the iGuide manual:

If you are using iGuide ... you can change this by going to Main Menu -> Setup -> Guide Setup -> Auto-Tune. Set this to Yes and it will automatically tune the channel if you enter it (without having to enter all three digits or OK)

You can't download or apply software patches to your 6412. This done by your cable company.

While I have seen some cool examples of Motorola downloading content from a PC to a 6412 at various demos and trade-shows ... I have never heard of any software allowing this actually being distributed yet. I don't think I've even seen any of the various additional analog inputs (composite) activated in the field (which at least would allow a basic way to get content from PC to DVR).

If you are using iGuide, see:
http://broadband.motorola.com/consum...DVR_Manual.pdf
pg. 36

I would imagine Passport and MSTV have a similar setting.

I believe iGuide is currently the most widely deployed guide at Comcast.

I would check the Comcast web site.

General guide for EPG available here:
http://www.comcast.com/newguide/

DVR-specific guide can be found here:
