I'm looking to buy a new PVR with the features listed below. I've done some searching around on the web but haven't had too much luck. Your advice will be appreciated in helping me to select a PVR.

1. No subscription fees.

2. Store-bought piece of hardware. Not a DIY PVR like MythTV.

3. Must be able to record analog cable TV.

4. Access to TV-guide style functionality isn't required - just need to be able to set the record start and stop times.

5. Nothing too fancy. Just a cheap PVR. Basic audio/video interfaces. Don't need HDMI, DVI, Ethernet, etc.

Thanks,
Angus

Your best bet for a simple one as you describe would be a DVD recorder with hard drive storage, like a Panasonic model. As a bonus you can copy a program from the hard drive when desired to a DVD disc.
