Is there a moderator for this part of the board? If so, can this be made a sticky?
I don't frequent this part of avsforum much, but I'm noticing a trend here that's exactly the same as what I see on Tivocommunity. Too many people are posting about [Comcast, Cox, Adelphia, etc.] DVR or just referring to it by model like Motorola DCT-6412 or Scientific Atlanta 8000/SA8000.
That's not specific enough and things are just WAY too confusing. Who knows which software is running on the poster's box? We can't read your mind and we don't have a camera pointed at your TV
People NEED to be more specific. A "Comcast DVR" could mean any MANY models along 1 of many different pieces of software. For example, the software running on a "Comcast" DCT-6412 DVR in Seattle is totally different than those in say the SF Bay Area.
For instance, the DCT-6412 runs at least 3 totally different possible pieces of software that look nothing alike:
- MSTV [I hear this is only in the Seattle area]
- iGuide
- Passport [not sure where this is deployed, but for instance Cox has some of these http://replayguide.sourceforge.net/d...Passport.html]
The DCT-6208 can also run the above 3. See http://broadband.motorola.com/dvr/dc...ia_demo_lo.asp and http://broadband.motorola.com/dvr/dc...media_demo.asp (click Interactive Program Guide in the flash movies) to see what I'm talking about.
The SA8000 could be running at least these 2 (are there any others?):
- SARA [see shots at http://www.pvrcompare.com/sciatlimages.html )
- Passport [see shots at http://www.pioneerdigital.com/passpo...ssportecho.asp
Adelphia ( http://www.adelphia.com/cable_entertainment/dvr.cfm ) has at least 3 Motorola boxes: one running Moxi and 2 running iGuide and a SA box running what looks like SARA.
