I got my first DVR yesterday and the first unit was bad.

Second unit seems to be working ok, but I have a few questions that I didn't see answered in the 6412/3412 thread.

1) The thing is loud, I am assuming cause it's constantly recording to cache to allow you to pause live there any way to shut this off? I don't really need any functionality on non-recorded shows if it means the thing would be quieter.

2) Channel changing is way slower than a normal STB, like 2-5 seconds. This just won't work for a channel-flipper like myself. Is this linked to the constant caching? Is there any way to resolve this at all?

Are all DVRs like this? Seems a bit disappointing.

What software is the 3412 using? Mine has Iguide, and on it there isn't a way to turn the HD off.

As far as the second question. All DVR's are going to flip through the channels alot slower than you are used to. Has to do with the live tv buffer. So your outta luck on that one. 5 seconds however does seem kinda long.
