My cable provider will have the new 6416s next week and I was wondering if these new units have the necessary firmware updates to enable their signal to be repeated by an HDMI switching receiver, or is it the same old crap as the 6412s?

thanks

Generally the same. Check the firmware rev. in the setup menu.

Yeah, I kinda figured they'd be exactly the same as the 6412s, with the onus being on the cable company to provide the necessary firmware updates. Unfortunately my cable provider is only at firmware upgrade 12.26, and I guess 12.35 is the magic number.

I'll have one as soon as my store gets them in stock; next week at the latest. :)

No difference between the 6412 and 6416 as far as firmware goes. Stupid old Shaw is still at 12.26.

I'm curious to know what's up with this as well as I'm about to purchase a 6416 through ebay.

Spoke with a shaw fellow in Victoria today - they are apparently sceduling a firmware update in septamber, which he 'figures' will be the fix...

And while he was speaking, he mentioned that Shaw is expanding their digital lineup starting today, with Discovery HD coming online in the next day or so!!!!

why is shaw so useless that they won't even admit that they are behind in their firmware updates? the fact is that the 6412 does not allow hdmi repeaters as it is now and they tell me in winnipeg that as long as it works fine with my tv (pio 5070 plasma - it does) that the 6412 works fine...what a joke they are...comcast in the states is at 12.35, so why is shaw so pathetic?...would love to switch to expressvu but i think their pvr is the same in not supporting repeaters....can't beleive i have to wait and suffer shaw's mediocrity....

Thanks subversive. At least you got the bigger HDD. I can't even get that from Brighthouse.
