I currently use 3 DTV / Microsoft Ultimate TV PVR's and am interested in upgrading to the new DTV HR20 PVR (I'm not interested in the TiVo model).

DTV can't give me a straight answer as to what dish I need for the HR20, and I won't let them do the install (they usually make a mess of things and won't run the cables the way I want them).

First I'm told that I need the 3 LNB dish, but others tell me I need the new 5 LNB dish to get the local HD channels.

I also have a total of 9 DTV receivers so I need some kind of multiswitch, but what kind?

What dish is required for the HR20?
How many cables run from the dish to the multiswitch?
What multiswitch to run 9 receivers (only 3 will be HD, the other 6 are standard DTV receivers)?

Thanks in advance for any info!

-Joe

You'll need the new 5 LNB dish.

Anyone else have any input about the multiswitches with the new AT9 Dish. I'm in the same situation as CSGO

The new DVR will require the 5 lnb dish, which, unlike the past is fairly difficult to set up without the proper tools (meters etc) ALso, no current installed multiswitches are compatible with the new system. There was only one available last I loked but can't remember who made it for the new system. I don't know how you will mix and match the new with the old. It MAY be that you will keep your old systems installed and install the new one in addition. One more thing. You can't diplex OTA signals with the new system either so if you need OTA reception you will need at least one additional RG run to each receiver location.

All in all, you may want to run your own wires, but using a DTV installer MIGHT be a good option, especially if you can get someone good (read not free)

Zinwell WB68 is one multiswitch that works with the 5 LNB dish.
