I have had this Panasonic DMR-EH50 since Dec 05. I can't complain about the functionality.

Of late I have had the issue come up that some prime time recordings will not start by themselves. Once I manually turn on the machine, the will start, and continue even if i turn it off.

This is obviously using the TVGOS functionality. I have analog cable, no box.

I have even noticed that if I turn the unit on in the afternoon, and then off, then the evening programs will record with no issue.

Have others noticed this?

Yes, but I never noticed that if I left it on it would work... I will experiment with that.

I've been attempting to figure out if this was a real problem. For the past number of weeks I've been using the DMR-EH50 every day, and now programs record without issues.

It appears that when the TVGOS data changes for one specific program lineup, it actually gets updated when it's turned on.

I've only seen this on program that have schedule changes due to political debates or special events bumping them.

I have an additional problem where scheduled recordings just disappear from the list. For instance, Lost didn't record tonight and I checked the schedule and it was gone (but it was there earlier this week). As far as I know, there weren't any program changes or bumps.

UPDATE

I took the plunge and attempted to call Panasonic Technical Support.

It took about 2 minutes to get through to a real person. I gave them my name and described my problem of the sceduled recordings just dropping out and the technician said they can fix that. She then said told me that a firmware disc will arrive in 1 -2 weeks that will fix this problem and she even told me my address.

While I just got off the phone, I'm extremely happy (and even more surprised) with help I received. I do believe in miracles...

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi, is there any update on this? Did the firmware disc arrive, and was it able to fix the disappearing programs problem? I have been having this problem with my EH50 ever since I first got it over a year ago. Lost, 24, Prison Break and many other programs routinely disappear from my scheduled list every single week, almost always on the day the particular show is scheduled to be on.

So has it been fixed? And what is the current firmware version that reads from the system diagnostic screen?

Thanks..
