Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could help with a question. I have a DCT6412. I want to pull some of the programs I have recorded off of the unit's HD (using my laptop). Can this be done? There are USB ports on the front that are not active, but it seems the back ports work.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Update:

I have found threads that talk about capturing, but still looking for info about how to get the recorded files off of the system on to a computer.

Example: I have a school program that I recorded from the news. I am looking to pull that off of the DCT6412.

Here is another question:

Can I use an external hardrive with my DCT6214? Then I could pull it from the system.

Both USB and External SATA are disabled. The only way to pull it out is through 1394.

I was/am able to pull streams as .ts files...it does take 1:1 time frame which is ok I guess. It's converting the .ts file to a .iso or .vbo file that is troubling me now. I attempted to convert it to a .mpg2 and had some troubles...so I will continue searching.

.ts files can be converted to dvd file formats with ConvertXtoDvd. You will need to get the full version of the program because the trial has watermarks.

Does the firewire port work on rental units? I have my unit from comcast and know that the usb ports are locked, but haven't tried the firewire...for lack of a cable actually. But if it's usable I'll pick up a cable.

The back ports do work. You will need to pick up the drivers for them...there is a link DRIVERS for DCT6412

I was also told that Nero Vision Express 3 will burn the .ts (transport stream) file you pull from the DVR. I am still testing ContentXtoDVD, I was told this too will work.
