I recorded "Lost" and played it back fine on my TWC 8300HD DVR viewing on my brand new Sony 60XBR2...no audio dropouts. I began to replay the same recording tonight for my girlfriend, on same tv, but during the intro...the audio dropped out for about 5 seconds. I rewound to the same spot and it dropped out at the exact same moment, twice. Determined, I rewound a third time and amazingly, it played fine the final time.

What gives? Surely it's not an issue with my tv's sound? Just a glitchy DVR? I've never seen where a DVR records and plays back a show fine, then on the next viewing of the same program, the audio drops out at a certain place....then goes back to being fine again.

Bizarre.

I have heard that TWC in my area might have occasional problems with HDMI with their 8300HD, but this is new to me.

When all else fails ... try a reboot.

My SciAtl DVRs occassionally had not-100%-reproducable playback errors like this that a reboot would often (though not always) fix.

Who knows ... RAM issues in the MPEG decoders that a reboot clears?
