i recently set up a mythtv box and I am having trouble receiving QAM channels. A scan of IRC cable with QAM256 gives me lots of results, but only a few of the channels out of hundreds will actually tune. For the rest of the channels that don't work I either get a partial lock (LA or La) or a lock (LAM) but the channel does not show up on the screen. I was wondering if anyone in the forum knew what QAM channels were open with cablevision? Has anyone had success with this?

Aside from the locals and public interest channels, most QAM channels are no longer accessible with MythTV.

Really? Do you mean that they are mostly encrypted?

They are typically encrypted, yes. They're probably also flagged as "copy one generation," which means you can't copy them without a 5C authorized device. A PC with Linux and MythTV is not a 5C authorized device.

Cablevisions unencrypted channels include all the locals, including HD, PBS-HD and 3 or 4 digital SD PBS channels, several Long Island networks, and digital local SD channels (ShopNBC, TheTube, etc).
These obviously will work with MythTV, but the only real content is the HD FOX, CBS and NBC.
