I have a similar situation...
I have basic cable... I hardly ever watch TV but my Girlfriend has a few shows she watches twice a week, and we'll usually catch the evening news.
While I have a full home theater setup in the basement we don't use it for TV at all. We have an old 25" CRT in the upstairs living room for that.
As of right now the shows she likes to watch get auto recorded with a VCR since their timeslot overlaps with her work schedule.
I'd like to get a PVR to replace the VCR but I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money on it... like the OP (I'm assuming) I want something that will directly replace the VCR.
I don't want or need a subscription service or any fancy features... i have a few 400GB hard drives laying around that I could throw in a box if that will help reduce the cost.
Basically I want something for less than $200 where I can set an analog channel number and a time slot to record and then play that recording back later with no additional costs. Heck it doesn't even need to come with a HDD, I can provide my own if need be.
is there a DVR on the market that can meet those needs?
