I purchased a Seagate 320gb external hard drive and connected it to my explorer 8300HD DVR with a PNY esata cable following all the instructions. I expected it to ask me if I wanted to format the disk. I never get that response. All it says is that it isn't communicating properly and to check power and connections. Funny thing is it knows it is there because if I turn it off it tels me that is has been turned off and that i need a DVR reset again to enable. I have powered the DVR multiple times. The drive is working because I was able to connect it via USB to my PC and it found it OK and gave me a directory of what was on the drive. Any ideas??
I too have purchased a Seagate 500gb "esata" drive and also get same notification. In reading the many posts, I find that most are talking about the Maxtor drives. Could it be that they only work with Maxtor? If anyone gets info on this problem please pass it along. I did not say that I am not using a "HD" DVR, I am using a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 in Akron, OH thru TWC. thanks
