My Sirius service, factory installed radio in my Mercedes SUV, repeatedly cuts out -- in town and on the interstate. This may be momentary or bring "acquiring signal" message. The dealer has replaced the antenna, and both dealer and Mercedes customer service state this is inherent in the Sirius service. I live in FL, so no problem seeing the satellites. They don't get a fault indication when testing the radio, so have not yet replaced it. Is this common, and does anyone have any suggestions?

The only time mines cuts out is under cover, and it has to be significant cover such as an overpass. Even in heavy tree cover I seldom lose it. Although on the Disney Channel 115 (little girl in the house) I do get intermittent pauses but only on that channel. Otherwise my Stiletto has proven wonderful and love having it. Can you say 80s on 8?

if swapping the antenna didn't fix it, it could be the satellite receiver unit itself, or the wire leading to the antenna.

btw, when I drive in florida I notice that when next to big-rig the signal could cut out rarely/briefly.

a possible way to prove there is problem with vehicle sat system is to use another receiver, and position the other receiver's antenna next to the benz sat antenna. you can do this with a single subscription because the signal problem will be evident even on channel 184, the no-subscription channel.
also you may be able to demonstrate this in the benz dealer's parking lot. drive around until you find a spot where the problem happens. then drive another benz from the lot next to your car. crank both radios, and point out to service tech when your radio goes off and the other does this. swap the cars positions, and then demonstrate the issue again, to prove that a 10 foot offset in position is not the cause.

I originally installed an after-market Alpine Nav system with SiriusXM in my Honda C-RV. The installer put the XM antenna on top of the car and the XM tuner module in my top glove box, away from the Alpine unit and other electronics. It worked fine for many years.

I replaced this unit, after some trial-and-error, ultimately with a Pioneer AVIC Nav System with SiriusXM. The installer put the XM antenna inside the car on top of the dashboard and the tuner was placed in the space behind the Pioneer AVIC system. I had the same problems with the SiriusXM cutting out that many other people are describing. On long trips (the main reason for paying for XM in the first place) it would cut out completely. I tried refreshing from SiriusXM and this did nothing to solve the problem. We also tried moving the XM antenna to the ceiling above the driver side visor, but this did nothing to solve the problem either - it may have even made it worse.

So I had the installer install it just as my Apline's SiriusXM had been installed: XM antenna on roof behind windshield; XM tuner in top glove box. (See pictures.) This fixed the problem.

Theory: It is possible that only one of these steps was necessary, but I'm not sure which. It is possible that the XM antenna needed to be higher up and away from other electrical interference inside the car. It is possible that heat or electrical interference from other devices were causing problems with the XM tuner and isolating it in the glove box prevented this. Both may be true, but I know that doing both of these things definitely fixed the problem in my case.

Please try this solution and let us know how it works.

I've had several cars cut out all over town for the last 6 or 7 years. It always happens at the same intersections, it has to be something disrupting the signals in those areas.
