I just noticed the new format and layout. I went through the hassle of adding all my favorites and only the first few were there after I logged out and came back in.

And maybe it's just my ears, it doesnt' sound like it's streaming in 128 kbps either. There is no premium stream available either like before.

Aside from possible changes with the new player today, I had understood there has been only the premium stream for subscribers, for a while.

To test and benchmark to answer the question in previous post, I unfortunately killed the old-player window rather than just stopping it. Now I can't get back to it to confirm/compare with my rough comparison, which agreed that the music-channel audio quality bandwidth used & has changed (dropped) with the new player, perhaps due to reverting to 'standard' stream rather than 'premium'.

desk-calculator calculations based on microsoft taskmanager networking app indicate that the new stream's bandwidth usage is:

70,000 bits/second .

The player design is terrible. Do companies actually test these out before releasing them or are they really this stubborn?

No, the new player was released with some serious bugs.

It seems like some of the bugs have been fixed, but there is still a major problem with the audio I am noticing.

The volume increases and decreases depending on the volume of the song. It's like the player is trying to maintain a constant volume for some reason. This sounds __terrible__

Whatever this feature is.. it needs to be turned off. It's like they don't even listen to their own player to make sure it sounds good.

I was able to access the old player using a saved link until just today. Apparently it has been removed.

A little premature there I think, Sirius. Very disappointing.

No problems with the new layout, but my player stops and starts a lot. There use to be a pop up window that would ask if you were still listening at about the two hour mark. You'd simply click "yes" and continue listening. The new format, at least in my case, displays an error message and will not let me log back in for about half an hour! I sent an email to Sirius support and got a generated reply that I would be contacted within 24 hours. Still have not heard from them. I'm very dissapointed. Did they even test this before it went live?

Just noticing today that the new player is stopping frequently. Clicking on listening does nothing to resume playback.

The scrolling preview is a real annoyance

The favorites selection is still very limited in the number you can have.

The prompt to continue listening is about every 90 minutes..same as before I believe.

When switching channels, the volume spikes up just before the channel channels....very disturbing.

I wonder how many people actual can or are complaining to Sirius about this new player?

Again, the audio is significantly inferior to the previous player....presumably because the 128 kbps stream is no longer available.

My favorite channel is the Metropolitan opera channel which used to be of excellent quality. On the new player, the volume constantly changes so that what are meant to be quiet passages come out as extremely loud, and passages expected to be loud, play extremely quietly. So much so in fact that to me, what are meant to be the loudest sections appear quieter than the general volume level.

Let's see if the live broadcasts on this channel are also similarly compressed. There is one this afternoon.

thanks johninbricknj. that player works very well. i couldnt get the sirius online player to transmit audio even though it was streaming. audio worked for a few minutes then when i changed the channel, it stopped. the sirius is player is super buggy.
i do have to wonder about the bitrate. xmtuner is saying many music stations are producing 129 kbps but that's not what my ears hear.

Thank goodness I found this thread, I am noticing the same thing (the audio starts then cuts out & nothing) I was not sure if it was my computer or the new Sirius player - it seems to be very buggy.

It's awful. I only use Sirius XM Streamer. Free program for windows. I read speculation on another board that they are using a different codec as well. AAC as opposed to Windows Media. Which is weird because I think it sounds slightly worse than the 128kbps windows media stream. AAC sounds good at 64kbps so I can't imagine they went too much lower than. So it should sound good--but it seems to have gotten a little worse when the upgraded the player. It amazes me how they simply do not care about sound quality. The sat feed is really bad. At least the internet stream sounds "good"--the satellite feed is so compressed and tinny.

The morons at tech support aren't even answering questions when I asked what's going on. They're replying with a generic template on troublehooting techniques. This seems to be the trend with online custumer support. They are trained not to answer questions directly....even if it is a simple yes or no.

BTW, the XMTuner says it's playing at 128 Kb/sec but I dont think it is.

XM Tuner is starting to prove to be very disappointing. I thought this app had a lot of promise. It's frequently not able to connect. Once you change channels things go astray. Now, I am just hoping to connect. Looks like it's back to the Sirus online app

My issue has gone away. Not sure what went on. The only thing that is still present is that I no longer have a live channel line-up feed like before. Also, it doesn't give me artist/song info on all the stations where it should. One example is Sirius Hits Channel 1. I shut down XM Tuner and then checked with the Sirius Online app and it shows the info.

I use the above to listen any suggestions whether I should use the 'Enhancer - ON' setting?
It's recommended for compressed music but I'm not sure about streaming?

I came here and signed up to post exactly about this. Their web player sounds like poop, POOP underwater. 4 days ago Sirius pulled the plug on support for 3rd party players and their web player sounds like a transistor radio.... WTF

Anger is overwhelming me.... gawd dam jerks.

As far as the annoying logging off when listening on the computer, I think I've found a way to stop it. With the new beta format, pause what you want to listen for about 4 minutes and then hit play. I've left mine on overnight and it has been going ever since.

Maybe others can try this tactic and see if it works for you.

Want to end the annoying 90 minute Siriusxm internet cut off and have a mac? Open the Safari browser to the Internet login for Siriusxm player and signin. Then launch the 'APIMAC Timer' App and with the help of simple Automator script you have a Keep Alive that press the 'pause' and then the 'play' button every hour or so.

Steps to create the Keep Alive:
1) Buy Apimac Timer at www.apimac.com and install.
2) Launch the Automator from the Mac Utilities
3) In the Automator choose 'Workflow'
4) under the Library tab choose 'Launch Application' and then select Safari
5) Next press the RED record button in the Safari window that is running the Sirius player. Immediately click the 'pause' button of the Sirius Player window wait two seconds and press 'play'. Now stop the recording.
6) Under the file tab in the Automator app save the automator in your applications files, choose a save name for the Automator. (like ' Sirius Keep Alive'
7) Launch the Apimac Timer App, select 'Stop watch' and click the 'every' button and set time to 1:10.
8) Select 'Launch Application' and select the name you named your Automator app
9) Check box 'Start when application is started'
10) Click 'start'
11) Under the File tab save your Apimac Timer setup.

The Automator will go to the Safari window and cycle a pause/play and the Apimac Timer will make this happen every 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Not elegant, but it delivers music for days. :-)

Lastly use 'Airfoil' to use Apple's Airplay to play throughout your home. http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
