I'm compiling a list of USELESS channels that Sirius needs to banish forever. These are redundant channels or channels that entertain almost no one. By erasing these channels, they free up bandwidth and thus are able to improve sound quality on remaining channels.

* 20s, 40s music. Really does anybody who subscribes to satellite radio still listen to music from the 20s? This seems like Sirius is catering to an ultra minority.

* All stations dedicated to playing one single band 24/7. Sorry but none of these bands really deserve their own channel. The Grateful Dead really doesn't need its own 24/7 channel.

* Half the Latin channels. I know this language is popular in the US but Sirius should be a primary English service. Other languages are fine but we don't need a million channels for them, maybe one channel per language.

* There are 3 classical stations. Cut them down to one since it's all the same anyhow.

* 3 Christian stations. Again, cut down to one.

* The 80s hair band channel. Come on, who still listens to this crap?

* General Junk Channels: The Loft Channel, Spice/Playboy/Sex Radio, Oprah channel, most "Adult Contemporary" stations.

* French programming should be cut down to one station.

* Do we really need all those sports channels? Ok, I know sports are popular, but there are more channels dedicated to sports than I can count. For example, one is Sports News, the other is Sports Talk. MLB has a talk channel, and a play-by-play channel. There are also multiple other channels that just seem redundant. These can easily be combined into one channel with fresher programming rather than 3 channels that loop the same stuff over and over again.

Doing this should allow Sirius to considerably increase sound quality on the stations we pay to listen to. I don't mean for this to sound like a rant, I just think that Sirius should cater to the overall good of their listeners. I think I've been very lenient.

What do you guys think??

I really don't think you should have Sirius at all. You should dump it, and go with PANDORA, or SLACKER.

Also, your choice of channels that should be dumped(French and Spanish), makes you come off sounding very ignorant. Just because YOU don't speak the language does not mean those channels are useless. ALOT of people in this country speak fluent Spanish(myself included), and a lot of people speak French.

DarkVenture, you are by no means ignorant, It is just that statement sounds ignorant.

I am sure Sirius has done research on which channels are popular. They have just done a re-mapping of the channel lineup to actually reduce the redundant channels made available.

The most important piece Sirius proverbial pie is Howard Stern. CANNOT get his radio show anywhere else. A lot of people will say they don't listen too him, but ALOT(myself included again) of subs do. And this will be proven in 2 1/2 years when he goes and retires, or does his radio show from somewhere else.

The mass exodus/dumping of subs will be big. I guarantee it.

But if I were you, dump Sirius, and go get Pandora/Slacker in your car/house somehow. You will be more pleased. Especially with the SOUND QUALITY. Both are VASTLY SUPERIOR to anything Sirius offers.

They'd be a very dumb company if they didn't have the ability to know who was listening to what. Even if the technology doesn't allow for uplink of which channels are tuned, they likely do market research, like the Nielsen's do.

The only thing that has me still on Sirius is Howard Stern. I'm not really interested in the streaming services, they are either not available in Canada or I just don't want to use up my data plan for them. If Howard goes, the abysmal sound quality of Sirius really does not make it worth the price, and I agree, mass exodus. I will just go back to regular FM radio and playing my own music from a 32GB flash drive.

Hey Dark Venture,
S.T. F. U.!
I listen to hair nation, and it`s better than anything out on Sirius/XM!
It`s the ONLY channel that I listen to besides, Boneyard, 80`s and Classic Vinyl!
IF REGULAR radio would play better music, then
NONE of us, would NEED SIRIUS/XM!
SO, F. U.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously??? Opera and a piano sonata are the same?

You're either trolling, have a weird sense of humor, or are seriously ignorant about music. Just because you think it doesn't mean you have to share it.

Same thought with those thinking that CATV, Satellite, Verizon Fios, ATT U-Verse should only offer the channels that they watch, and add features that only they would use.

The 3 classical stations actually differ by a lot....I know because I listen to them. The single artists channels are payola channels....in other words Artists pay to have their names on stations so I doubt they will be going anywhere soon...that's money in the company's pocket. We need the Spanish and French stuff etc.....You argue they should be English only....you could argue the same thing about TV etc....but its better to be diverse....3 christian stations all offer different types of religious music.... I don't listen to 20s or Hair band but there are people that do....once again its good to have variety....All of the sports channels all offer different things as well....they don't all talk about the same stuff all day. some focus on some stories....others focus on other stories....they do have the SXM general updates though. Well I agree that the Sex channel is useless.....there are people that really like that channel....And you lose Oprah I'm sure you lose a lot of female subscribers....Just like when they lose Howard I'm sure they will lose subscribers even though I don't see how a guy that does like 2 shows a week for like 4 hours has that huge of a following. I guess folks love the replays, lol I think Opie and Anthony are better but thats just me...Howard draws people so yes its good to keep that too. Also if you're on the Sirius side I doubt the sound quality can get any better...even when Sirius only had like 60 channels it was well documented that it sucked compared to XM.....now the quality is better on XM and can get better if they drop some channels which they will be doing at the end of the month. Most of the Clear Channel programming will be dropped....(pretty much everything in the More category)

So this is what you want XM to become:

-Only channels that DarkVenture needs
-Get rid of old music, nobody likes that anyway, right?
-Reduce all multichannel genres, because I mean if you've listened to one christian you've listened to them all.
-Only English people need multiple channels, French, Latino, they can just have one channel each since they aren't as good as English people.

Okay, sorry but you're sounding so ignorant that it's like impossible to even read your post without LMFAO.

You guys are totally misunderstanding all the points I was trying to make.

First., Sirius is marketed as a primarily English service for English speakers. It's great that they have all these other languages, but the fact is that the service is bit-starved for bandwidth, and for a mainly English speaking audience I believe that it's not needed to give other languages 20 different channels per language.

I chose the stations that should be cut based on what I think most people can live without. I don't suggest that only channels I like should be kept. I realize that if I suggested that the NASCAR channel be cut, there would be an angry mob carrying pitch forks at my door before sundown. As well, most people who like classical music also value high sound quality - something they won't find on Sirius so why bother with 3 channels of poor sound quality classical?

With every channel cut, Sirius will probably lose a small number of subscribers. I'm sure almost every channel has at least a minority dedicated following. However, you have to look at the big picture. Sirius has already lost huge amount of subscribers due to the abysmal sound quality. On the Howard Stern channels, the sound quality is quite good for satellite radio, so its technically possible to have good quality on this service. On some of the popular ones, like 90s channel and Lithium, the compression makes them almost unlistenable. The classic rock stations don't seem as bad to my ears so perhaps not as much is used.

When HS leaves Sirius, I am going to cancel my sub if they do nothing about the horrid SQ. Switching from Sirius to even my compressed MP3's makes my ears feel like are going from a Turkish detention prison to a luxury hotel. They have to make some "serious" changes to their service or they will be right back where they were pre-HS.

By the time Howard Stern leaves(Jan 1st, 2016?), I am "guessing/hoping" that direct ISP might be available in cars by then, so that services like PANDORA/SLACKER/IHEART RADIO will be available.

He won't resign with SiriusXM, that is for sure. He will either retire, or create his own APP(if what I mention above happens)/Radio Studio and sell it too anyone who wants it, with the money going DIRECTLY too him/his company.

Sirius sound quality is SO BAD, it is definitely NOT WORTH IT once HS leaves IMHO. I can get 100% better sound from other services. Plus a ton of other exclusive content elsewhere. Except for HS right now. And once that changes, and it will, I will be gone as well.

Well on the XM side of the company they do dedicate more bandwidth to certain music channels including their hits stations and classical stations not to mention XM has the 2.0 service now...those channels sound way better than even the channels that have high bandwidth. I prefer high quality but luckily most of the stations I listen to have good bandwidth with the exception of the sports channels....Plus with XM losing the clear channel stations next week their quality may get even better....the Sirius side on the other hand does sound horrible and I really don't think they plan on doing any upgrades to the sound on that sound....All of the upgrades are on XM technology....so if you want better sound you can start by getting XM equipment....Nonetheless I still don't see the big draw of a guy that takes vacation 4 days out of the week, lol. Opie and Anthony are better IMO but then again that's why we have so many channels....CHOICES...what some people like..others won't.

Normally I only listen to 2-4 channels on Sirius. But having the option when I have others over to find something that fits everyone is great. With some people over I'll play Jimmy Buffet (Margaritaville), some of the Latin channels, etc. Do I enjoy listening to them? Not particularly, but there is music for everyone and anyone which I do like. Instead of them removing those channels though, I'd rather they work on ensuring cars can access ALL of the channels and reducing the number of online only channels available. I feel the accessibility to the channels is more important than the number of channels.

When XM was still XM I would listen to XM Chill which I think was ch. 84 back then.. since that went away I really have no desire to come back to Sirius XM, I keep getting in the mail that the radio is turned on from Nov.20 - dec 3rd all the time

I just use Pandora in my car, sounds pretty good for what it is and my Kenwood radio came with 1 year of Pandora so no ads
