Hello,

I'm looking into installing XM Radio in a 2003 Ford Explorer - However I don't want to have wires everyplace. Hopefully one of you has installed XM in an Explorer before - if you have, I would appreciate it if you would answer my questions!

1. My explorer has a single disk cd player - does it have an aux input? (I
Would rather not remove this unit that came with the car)

2. In terms of an antenna - I would rather have a window type than
Something on top of the car - I saw such on the XM website - (XM 8100
F C/P) - I like that you don't have to drill or anything ---- has anyone
Here used this antenna - if so did it work well, or do you have a better
Option?

3. I was looking at the Delphi XM SKYFi Radio or the Sony Satellite Radio
Receiver for Car DRN-XM01R2 - I don't really like the alpine units - right
Now I'm leaning towards the Delphi unit - again I would love to know
These units have worked for everyone and how you mounted it.

4. Finally, Would it be better to get a professional installation - at a best
Buy or circuit city?

Thanks for any help that you can provide!

1)
Yes, they have a 1/8" headphone jack, which can easily be converted to L/R channel RCA cables. Though to interface with a factory headunit you will need a PIE/Blitzsafe adapter, FM modulator, or a tape cassette adapter if you have a cassette player.

2)
You don't have to drill any holes for any roof mount antennas.
All roof mounts for XM and Sirius use adhesive pads that DO NOT mar the paint on your car. I've removed 4 of them, and I can personally attest they do no paint damage. However, the Antenna Specialists antenna are the best you can get. Roof mount, or thru-glass.

3)
Stay away from the Sony.. The Delphi has many more features and stability to it, especially with the included antennas it comes with. You really dont even need to purchase another antenna. Included antenna with the Sony and Delphi cars kits are magnetic.

4)
Not unless its very cheap or free. It's very easy to install yourself..

If your goal is to have it look good, I'd recommend having professional installation.

- at a best Buy or circuit city?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

If you are going to go that route, you might as well install it yourself. Don't get me wrong, you can get a great installation job at a big box chain. But you can also get a seriously crappy one. They don't really care. If they mess up one customer, they just make it up selling a few more DVD's or maybe a washing machine.

Your local "mom and pop" car radio store lives and dies on how well it installs radios. For the most part, either they do a good job, or they go under.

Of course, this is going to restrict your choices - my local mom and pop only sells the Alpine equipment you don't like. So maybe you do end up stalling it yourself.
