I believe the international EH-55 only had a 100gb hdd but my guess is the listing is for a regular N. American EH-55 which had a 250Gb hdd. I see a listing like this quite often and think the sellers are just searching online for EH-55 and copy and paste the first one they see
edit: actually looking at my sig thread I see the intl EH-55 had a 160gb hdd, I doubt a EH-55 ever had a 100gb hdd.

There's a guy on eBay selling a Toshiba RD-XS35 for $175. It doesn't have the remote, but he somewhat evasively implies it would work (with all its functions?) with a Logitech Harmony remote. For all the years I've been on this forum, I don't recall anyone ever confirming this would in fact work, despite many threads devoted to remotes.

Question: Has anyone ever gotten a Toshiba RD-XS35 to be fully functional using a Logitech remote?

Here, for clarification, is our exchange so far (read from the bottom up):

Dear blitswagon,

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Yes, universal remotes are awesome these days. Which one did you use, and how were you able to get it to perform all of the RD-XS35's editing, authoring and burning functions?

Also, when was the last time you burned a DVD? Was it successful?

How much would shipping to Canada be?

Thanks!

Dear blitswagon,

Hi, I've got a few questions.

If there's no original remote, what kind of universal remote did you use to access all the DVD authoring and burning functions?

When was the last time you burned a DVD? Was it successful?

How much would shipping to Canada be?

Thanks!

Wasn't the 531 one of the kludgy models with the bad TVGOS implementation that made many of the machines literally self-destruct?

Yes, IIRC it was one of the first DVD Recorders I bought, but for the reasons you mentioned I had to return it, and instead eventually became what some on this board refer to as a die-hard Toshiba RD-XS cultist.

The DMR-E80H is a 80GB 2003 model that does not maintain D1 resolution beyond the SP recording mode. This model is limited to DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs. This model uses a difficult-to-service DVD Drive encased within a metal surrounding structure. The DVD Drive design incorporates the two-level lid/guide structure pictured in this thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1207391

The DMR-EH50 is a 100GB 2005 model that maintains D1 resolution out to the LP recording mode. This model may use DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs. This model uses the black plastic case DVD Drive that is easier to service, see this thread for servicing procedures and photographs:

Red flag: Another eBayer selling a Toshiba RD-XS35, claiming, "It is in great working condition.[...] Auction is for the Recorder only and it does not come with a remote."

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...:X:RTQ:CA:1123

Has anybody ever burned a DVD with this machine without the remote?

Caveat emptor!

(Read from the bottom up. My last question has gone unanswered...)

Generally people on Craigslist don't like to bother shipping, otherwise they'd probably use ebay and get lots more money. AFA the unit not working, my guess is a spindle cleaning(and maybe laser) cleaning would return the unit to working condition but it is odd it records but doesn't play back commercial DVDs, generally it's the other way around with a dirty spindle

Well, that has been Delited by the author,
so i`m guessing, SOLD!
And While we`re on the subject,
there were 2 Pioneer 660h on ebay recently.
One sold for $599 IMMEDIATE PAYMENT and the other
sold for over $1,200!
Who in there RIGHT MIND would pay THAT MUCH for these units?
The only difference from a Regular 640h
is a slightly bigger Hard Drive and a Keyboard input.
Yet you CAN GET a 640h on ebay for around $200-$300.
WHY spend $1,200 on a 660h?
I HOPE it was NOBODY here!
I would have to question your reasoning for paying such a HIGH price!
I CAN NOT Justify that. SO IF you were the winner/s
Please explain to me WHY you had to spend THAT MUCH on the 660H?
Am I Missing something?

Well many of us are now doing HD captures with TV cards and Cable card equipped boxes and cards so yes that kind of money for something that can't even tune any digital channels is pretty silly now a days. It would be nice to have a modern box that can do HD, burn HD to disk, networks, and has a hard drive but not holding my breath. I spose if I found one cheap enough I'd do it just because but not that kind of money for sure.

Ditto, glad to see you back. I actually had to find that EH50 *gasp* on my own the old fashioned way, by setting up a Kijiji alert. I almost made the guy an offer, too, but I finally decided to grab one of the last remaining Magnavox 515s from J&R last week (more on that later).
