hi all,

I am trying to copy taped movies from my HDD to DVD+R disc. when I insert the disc it reads that I should insert a valid disc in the source drive. I've tried several of the Sony DVD+R disc but it keeps giving me the same message. I know I need to format the disc but I don't even get that far. The Panny DMR-EH55 doesn't read the DVDs.

Anyone got a solution.

PS: this player was bought in Belgium where I live

I have used my EH55 to burn +R disks rarely, but it has worked okay. I don't have an explanation for your error. As mickinct suggests, Panasonic DVD recorders prefer the -R formats, but the +R ones should work. Sorry, I haven't a clue.

Whenever I have gotten that message: "insert a valid disc in the source drive" it's because the machine THINKS I am attempting to copy FROM the DVD TO the HDD. I select the source as being from the HDD and it's happy. I've never seen that message except on attempting to copy. It makes no sense that it would make such a statement "SOURCE DRIVE" unless you had initiated a copy, so I am confused.

Could you be more specific at the the precise steps are following,m and the machine's prompts, etc.

I have the same problem with my EH55 using DVD+Rs. What's strange to me is that my EH50 has no problem at all using DVD+Rs. You would think since the EH55 (2006) came out a year after the EH50 (2005) it shouldn't be an issue.

Mine asks me to format all +R disks as well.

Can you be more specific as to the exact nature of the problem and what your EH55 is doing and saying?
