I have had U-Verse 5+ years since the original install in my area and love it! I have a Mag 2160A and a monoprice component converter which i use to copy from the u-verse Whole home DVR and it works flawless lee.Works on HBO,Cinamax etc.I don't have HD but have viewed on their Free preview promotions and it looks very good on my 32" LCD TV.I would recommend you try it especially with their new wireless receivers! Remember your Magie can only record 480i SD anyway. Hope this helps your decision. I don't have com-crap available in my area but some coworkers do and they feel your pain.

U-Verse's SD is very good, and it still should look rather decent (DVD quality) on an HD display. It's their HD that's really not worth the price.

Unfortunately Wifey & I have gotten hooked on HD picture quality viewed on 50" & 60" Panny plasma displays and don't want to go to a lower PQ....yet. I'm about ready to change but she's not.

Fortunately, the LSU/Alabama game last night came through perfect so there is that.
