I have a Philips DVDR 3506 and I am using a Philips universal remote. Problem is I don't know how to get into setup using a universal remote. Without that I cannot set up the clock or set the timer, ect. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Carol

You need the original remote or a different universal remote to get those functions. Any harmony like the $20 model 200 will work, as will many one-for-all and cable tv remotes. The codes below work with many cable and one-for-all remotes like the $15 RCA RCRP05B available at many major electronics, department and drug stores using DVD code 1506 or 21506. The manual programming instructions for Advanced codes on the Wiki page linked in my signature tells you how to use the codes.

I can't thank you enough. I went to Radio Shack and bought the Harmony 200. It works perfectly, really slick. The online programming really allowed me to individualize each button. Thank you for your help!

I assume you already have DVD set to code 1506 since power works. If not, press DVD, hold Setup for 2 blinks, then press 1506 (2 blinks for success).

Then you can start assigning codes per the instructions HERE. For example, to assign the play function to the play button, press DVD, hold Setup for 2 blinks, press 994, tap Setup, then 00051 then the PLAY button (2 blinks for success). Repeat the procedure for all the other functions you need.
