Hi count me in too! Is it possible to create your own DVD or Bluray recorder? Is so any links you could provide to me or direction would be greatly appreciated!

If it will record HD from HDMI, or component, I'll buy it!

For all you that are saying you would buy, or what you would be willing to buy. Instead of just telling us here, go and tell Walmart this directly. Only posting here is not going to convince Walmart to do anything.

Walmart,

I have over the years purchased from your store at least one each of the improved models of the Mag/Phillip DVD recorders.

From my experience they are very reliable units and I would like to continue buying them from you.

I prefer buying them in the store where I can touch feel it and be presented with the next generation updates. But if the trend is through your Web store than that will work also.

Thanks in advance.

A very concerned consumer.

I'd be very interested in buying a Magnavox HDD/BD/DVD recorder if I could purchase one from my local CANADIAN Wal-Mart or at the very least order one from walmart.ca

I've already indicated my interest in the combo disc described, but ... I think we would be remiss in not also re-emphasizing our interest in continuation of the existing model 515. What a handy piece of machinery. I will really regret its passing. If there's any way for Funai to keep this in production, we would be ever so grateful. Why leave a market in which you are the sole provider? The recordable blu-ray may be asking for the moon -- here, we are only trying to retain the 'status quo'.

One of my online request forms generated a call from my local store manager saying he had just order 4 of those recorders I was interested in. After the excitement died down, it turns out the Walmart 515 page had the wrong "Walmart Number" for the product... he had just ordered $98 line-in recorders!

So, I decided to send a letter to Walmart HQ in Arkansas. Here's the text of my letter and I encourage other to copy and/or modify it and send their individual requests to the same place:

* * * * * * *

Walmart Home Office
702 SW 8th Street
Bentonville AR 72716-8611

Attention: Product Selection & Ordering Coordinator for Funai Electric, One of Your Strategic Suppliers

Dear Walmart:

We Need a New HDD/BRD/DVD Recorder in North America!

You've been our primary source for hard disk drive (HDD) recorders. They were produced by Funai, one of your Strategic Suppliers, and they've been the ONLY ones available in all of North America with HDD and digital tuner for the past 5 years. .

Very soon, Funai will be stopping production and we'll be left out in the cold!

However, Funai still makes combo recorders with HDD, Bluray Disc (BRD), DVD, and VCR and sells them in other countries!

We're hoping they might do the same for North America (USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America) if you requested it.

This is our APPEAL for you to consider selling, online and in stores, a N.A. version of one of the following (or both):

1. Upgraded, multi-tuner HDD/DVD recorder like the MDR515H/F7 that you've been selling online.

2. One of Funai's current, high-def HDD/BRD/DVD recorders like they sell in other countries.

I am writing this letter on behalf of other members of the million-member-strong AVS Forum who frequent the following web site, which itself has had almost 2 million views from people all over North America:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...6#post12244086

Sincerely,

I don't know if this link works.

The Magnavox site lists two dvr/dvd recorders.

The 515 (the newest model, not the 513) is gone from the website however.

I've attached the .doc file of the letter as I'm sending it to Wal-Mart.

I made a few changes. No slam against Wajo's wording, but it's good to personalize.

I do have to ask Wajo a question-
Why the mention of VCR? This was the first I'd heard of it being in a current recorder, and I'd have actually been more comfortable not mentioning it. Makes the thing a little less likely.

.

Yes, I had seen that post about your nearby "confused" store manager's call.

I should have been more specific, like "....a reply from someone in Bentonville?"

Yes. Please work with Funai / Magnavox to make this happen.

At the very least, make a few more 515's please.

I got one as a gift a few months ago, and it is humming along fine. Would like to get a few more, as do a couple other friends after having heard about them.

Only 'wish' would be to integrate the ATSC program info - no need for a full 'guide' really, but it'd be nice to auto-title OTA recordings, and schedule by means of this kind of basic interaction instead of via 80's style timers.

Work that magic into the next one (all DTV converters and all new TVs can 'see' this info.... just sayin' ...), and I think it'd be THE most popular item since the original Tivo.

Only problem - cablecard. Those with cable have to use a box. Maybe make a higher end model that handles cablecard?

In any case, I'm on board for these little units to continue being made.
Sad to see the last few (515's) on Amazon going for outrageous prices.

I want discs!

I record stuff and some of it I archive onto discs (like I record the Cool TV (music videos) and keep the music videos I like and put them on DVD's).

I record stuff to DVD-R's take to my GF's house to watch.

I can more easily diagnose HD problems by using DVD-R's to do my daily recordings and it it works perfectly, I helps point me in the right direction.

I personally could care less about having some sort of guide. The existing programming capability is exactly the same as it was when there were VCR's, and that's all you really need. If you are too stupid to look up TV schedules and change your programming accordingly, than you do deserve a monthly fee. If you are too lazy to delete recorded shows that are repeats, then you also deserve a monthly fee.

I hope you guys have success in getting a new updated recorder. Good luck. At least you can say you tried and did not just sit back and let it not happen.

Bought the 513 a while back from Walmart.com as it was the only one available. Would buy an improved model from Walmart if available. I did a check and both the 513 and 515 are still available on Walmart.com. Here are the links:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Magnavox-M...order/14291489

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Magnavox-M...Tuner/15080509

Also noticed the price(s) have increased; I paid $198.00 for my 513!

I don't know if that's good, or if it is just a boilerplate response that isn't anything other than an electronic auto-reply--slightly improved.

At best a boilerplate reply. At worst, it's sent by some kind of auto-bot. Don't think it means anything.

I don't think you can get a more generic reply that fits asking for just about anything from a new model DVDR to new flavor of cheese puffs. My vote is on the auto-bot.

Having the message land in the pile in your In Box and having the time to read it and do something about it are very different things for the modern-day Bob Cratchit toiling in the cubicle farms of Big Giant Jumbo Corp.

To quote a crotchety old editor that I used to work for: "Customers and employees are DEAD LAST on the list of priorities at American corporations."

Not saying W*M won't pick up the follow-on to the 513/515 if Funai makes one. But if they do, it'll probably be more due to corporate momentum ("we pick up everything Funai makes and give it X number of months to make the minimal sales amount threshhold") than a person actually reacting to and responding to pleas from folks like us.

Dang, I'm cynical.
