Just a quick question that may have been answered before about the cooling fan....
Does it have two speeds or several speeds? I bought my 515 & 513 during the winter months this past winter.
Getting some really hot temps here in Atlanta and have the house at 76 during the day.
Was catching up on both units today viewing lot's of HDD recordings that I have not been able to watch. Noticed after about 5 hours of viewing on the 515 the fan started to sound like it was running at a higher speed. I stopped the playback and went to the 515 to hear what I could see...
It did sound louder and while I was in front of the unit the fan started to slow down. Continued watching and after about 30 minutes it sounded like it went to a higher speed.
Tonight I noticed it with the 513 fan.
These units have lot's of space for air circulation and are on a open built in bookshelf / entertainment type center.
Am I hearing things? If not hearing things....is this normal operation? The case top did not feel hot....just typical slightly warm.
Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else...
Have a great weekend Everyone!
I've never heard and I don't think anyone else has posted on a fan that seems to change speeds, and we watch in long sessions too.
If it bothers you or you think you might need new fans, which are relatively easy to replace, here's the help file on that.
Dosen't bother me. I just have an ear for pitch. (Piano Tuner here)
When it would "slow" down it would go back to the normal speed. I would say in pitch terms the higher speed was one 1/2 step higher.
Have a great weekend!
Good luck with that. Electronics are constantly changing, a newer firmware, a new revision and BAM! your piece is now doing something else.
FYI, laptops have had variable speed fans for the longest (for noise control purposes), so this is not new technology.
