Browsing for an HD HDD I came across the latest Toshiba SD-H400 HD/DVD recorder.

The Amazon price here lists the unit at like 60% off of what the MSRP lists on Toshiba's website!!!

I'm not sure if that's a snafu, but they also just made a blunder on the latest JVC HM-DH40000u HD DVHS machine for a low price.

Maybe we can catch them early and get it for a steal.

It has an 80Gb HDD, basic Tivo functionality but not firewire input that I'm aware of.

Might be worth a look.

Note that this doesn't record to DVD - it's a combination hard disk recorder and DVD player.

We'll I'll be hot damned! I guess I read into it too deeply and not deeply enough! :)

Thanks for the eye opener.
