My Phillips 985 stopped allowing me to record on DVD+R discs a few months ago. Some internet searches yeild information that I needed to upgrade the firmware to make it more compatible to new dvd+ discs as well as to correct some "wrongs" in the original firmware. Being a Macintosh user, I downloaded the firmware upgrades from two locations and hoped ther were be no complications. I had no success getting the 985 to recognize the discs, much less start the upgrade process. A query on this problem to dvd+.org returned a reply saying I should have no problems so long as all of the files clearly showed up on the disc. having made sure all files werre visible on the dis (and not in fo0lders) I tried to upgrade once more, but to no avail. The 985 still refuses to recognize the disc.
Can anyone offer any clarity to my situation?

I don't have a Mac, but on Windows I was able to successfully create an upgrade CD using Easy CD Creator 5.1. I used firmware downloaded from here:

http://www.dvdplusrw.org/video/firmw...d_philips.html

The FAQ states that the downloaded files must be used to create an ISO image. You can't just copy the files to the CD; your burning software needs to be able to deal with ISO image files.

If all else fails, maybe you could create the CD on a Windows machine.
