Every Philips 985 burned +R( over 10 tried) has played on the E80. Tonight, I burned 2 DVD's a +R and a -R on my new Sony computer PCV-RZ34G- The +R would not play but the -R did on the E-80 after a slight pause at first which could have been the software. But then it played great. I wonder if this is the same type burner that Sony is putting in its new recorders? To be fair to the Sony this burned +R played great on my Panny XP30 and Panny DVD-F85 newer players and even the $58 Apex 5131 new Mitek chip DVD player 3 changer I bought a week ago at Walmart for kicks. BTW that thing has every output in the world although they say it does not last very long. It is actually bigger then the 985 recorder and built fairly well. Bottom line- Alot of +R burned will play on the E80, but not in all cases. Most of us are not playing our burned discs on the E-80, but if this helps a couple guys what the heck.

It is similar, but the Sony recorder doesn't support +R recording.

The Sony set top recorder DOES support +R but none of the neat features of +R are available.

They didn't want people confused by having different features with different disks.
