I have burned over 90 discs High speed xp dub since I bought on July 10. 100% backing up VHS tapes that I had previously recorded. It started acting up so I unplugged, for 30 minutes and am back at it. Any thoughts on my theory? There also is an option on the setup menu that says "Reinitialize settings" What does this do?- back to when you bought it?
I suspect the "reinitialize settings" is simply restoring factory defaults. I have occasions where the machine reboots (when switching from DVD-RAM to DVD-R), but by going slowly and letting the machine recognize the new disk (sometimes also just switching from HDD->DVD->HDD before a new dubbing session) it does the trick.
I think almost every DVD *player*, let alone recorder, is a computer. My Apex 3-disc changer has a bug in its initialization sequence that causes it to hang if you hit the OPEN button too early. I'm sure there are others, but I haven't found them.
What do you mean by 'acting up'? what was happening?
I have burned maybe 20 DVD-R and filled up the hard drive and have had 2 coasters and about 5 or 6 errors/reboot happen, once when I was just titling a disc. But nothing consistently wrong. So far, except for the memorex issue, I think errors are mostly due to not giving the machine enough time to set up between commands, esp. when dubbing, recording. That's my semi-newbie opinion so far.
