I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these... but I keep watching my electric bill inch higher and higher. A PC that's on often, my TiVo with two hard drives that are up and running 24x7, a DSS powered multiswitch that's always on, and even all of the other components that are sitting in "standby" mode sucking up a few watts every hour of every day.

Anyway, is the hard drive in the E80 spun up all of the time? Only when it's turned on? Or only when it's recording to or reading from the hard drive? I'd like to get this, but I'm trying to avoid having yet another component that's going to sit there and suck juice all the time.

Does anyone know...?

The hard drive only spins when the E80 is turned on. When on, power consumption is 35W. When in standby mode, it's roughly 3.3W (these numbers are from the Owner's manual).
