I need some good advice as to whether or not it is OK to use 8X speed discs with my Panasonic DMR-E100. Specifically Sony or TDK brand. I have read various threads on this subject and I am confused. Is there a reliability issue with 8X vs. 4X speed media and if so, what should I expect?

Any comments from users of this recorder and 8X media with it (or the Pana DMR-E80, since it is basically the same generation unit) would be much appreciated!

THANKS ALOT!!:)

I have the E100 and I just bought a 50-pack of Fuji 1X-8X and two 50-packs of Sony 1X-8X DVD-R's. Unfortunately I can't give you any first hand experiences because I haven't opened the packages yet. Obviously I am not expecting any problems or I wouldn't have bought them. I know they won't burn faster than the 4X my E100 is capable of, but I see no reason that they should work any different than the 4X DVD-R's that I have been using? Maybe I am in for a rude awakening but I don't think so?

Maxell 8X "Made In Japan" work fine in my E80H. Since the E100 uses a different burner, I can't tell you for sure.

I am stocking up on 4X while it is still available. I have had playback problems with both TDK and Maxell (Japan) 8X, occasionally on my E80 and more often on my older HS2. 4X has played fine in both.

I have burned several Maxell 8X in my E80 with zero problems. I can't tell you about my E100 because it is still in the shop <sigh>. However, Maxell 4X was one of the most reliable discs in that machine. So, I have to think the 8X shouldn't be a problem.
Let us know of your experience.

In my E100, I've used Fuji 8x media (Made in Japan with scalloped cake box) with 100% success. No problems with burning, high-speed dubbing or playback. These are TY02 disks -- I have purposely stayed away from the made in Taiwan variant of the Fuji 8x media.

BTW...these are on-sale in BB this week for $19.99/50.
