Aaarrrrgh! Bought a 50 pk spindle of TDK -Rs from Office Max Monday. DVD Identifier lists the first one out as dreaded CMC.

They should. Tell 'em it won't work with your burner.

Good price. Will check it out tomorrow and report back where they're made. The cover shown isn't too promising.

I ventured to CC this afternoon and found the Sony spindles. But checking where they were made, I saw they were from Malaysia instead of Taiwan. Was nervous about getting them so I put them back. The last 2 Sony packs I bought were made in Taiwan, and carried a 1st class media ranking at the DVD site that lists media code rankings.

Checked here too, but the -Rs were all gone. But picked up 3 of the TDK -RWs. Be sure to get the ad flyer when you go in, the $1price required the coupon inside, at least the checker made me pull the thing out for her to see.

The Verbatim +R DL discs came out as MKM-001-00, which, from all I've read, is good.

The ones I have from Singapore (blue package) and India (white package) both give the exact same code.

Thanks for the code. Under ¢18 per disk is an excellent deal.

Would that be both the 50 and the 100 pks. that are on sale (they look the same)?

I think you missed a couple o' letters there Rammy.

The +R DUAL LAYERS come in 20 packs and give the code MKM-001-00.

I didn't scan the -R SINGLE LAYER discs yet. Those DO come in packs of 50 and 100, though I have no idea why anyone would go for the 50 @ $15, when they can double up and get 100 for just $5 more.

The 50 and 100 packs (other than quantity, obviously) are identical, as you suspected.

I don't see the DLs on the OfficeMax site. Are they store-only?

BTW, it seems like they've ran out of +Rs. I just got an email saying it "could take until 02/27/08 to come in from the vendor". They're still showing as "shipping in 1-3 days" though...

Sorry - didn't notice the "dual-layer" part.

Good to know about those too, though.

Thank you very much for this code NewYorkGirl! I went to my local OfficeMax tonite with a pal and we got 4 100 spindles of the Verbatim's together. I told the OfficeMax Manager about the code and asked if he would match that in the store. He had a Jr. Member go in the office with me, we pulled up this website and got the code(I didn't remember it... Duh!). Then they went to the officeMax website, dumped 4 100 spindles in the cart, entered the code and went to checkout. Sure enough - it showed $15 off. They printed the page as proof of the code's validity and sold us the 400 Verbatim's for $71.42 after tax. Put them on my pal's Business Credit Card and got another 5% off!

$67.85 final cost for 400 verbs. 17cents apiece. Sweet!

And Kudos to my Local OfficeMax for going to such ridiculous lengths to make a customer happy!!!

Picked up a 100 pack of Verbatim DVD-Rs in the new packaging, they're the MCC03 media id (Which ALL Verbatim-branded -Rs should be) but unfortunately the MAP6 hub code which in my experience is much inferior to hub code MAPA. I know many don't agree with my concerns about MAP6 coded discs but they definitely burn and scan much worse than MAPA ever did on my LG and Plextor burners.

That said, I knew going into it that there was probably a 95% chance they'd be MAP6 (haven't seen MAPA DVD-Rs in at least 18 months) but figured for $20 I'd have a 100 good "backup copy" level discs. (i.e., for something important burn on TY/Verbatim +R and make another copy on these).

They were out of DVD+Rs but I have a raincheck (Which consisted of the cashier circling it on the ad and writing "RAIN CHECK".. hrrrrrrm.). So I have no idea what those were.

Here is a K-Probe Scan of the first DVD from my new batch of Verbatim (MAP6) DVD-R 16x. This was burned on my Sylvania HDRV200F from an Analog Cable feed first recorded to the HDD then edited and burned to DVD. This is about as good as it gets with this particular burner.

WOW!! I got by far the WORST burn I have EVER seen of of one of my new Verbatim DVD+R 16x DVD Blanks! This DVD was recorded on my computer from a very good original burn from my Sylvania HDRV200F that I stored on a computer HDD as backup. The Computer Burner was a TSST SH-S202J (Toshiba Samsung Corp). I did get 3 average burns from the same original file burning the Verb+R 16x with my Optiarc and my Lite-On DVD burners. But MAN!! That was on uuuuuuugly burn from the TSST.

Best to worst in just 3 hours. Are you sure the quality of the burn wasn't at least partially a product of doin' a bit o' the drinkin' and staying up 'tll 3 AM?

I didn't know this, but apparently many people are questioning the MCC004 media, specifically for erratic burns.

Here's a post that sums up the thread it's in pretty well. Many other posts in this thread also complaining about bad burns.
