Good job Ravfour22. Which cap is it? Is there an identifier number on the board? And is that a 2200uF cap?

The cap is Green in color, it has F 2200 on it, Then 10V but any voltage above 10 is fine I replaced with a 50V also must be at least a 105c(temp) or 221F(temp) cap, I also put in a second fan in the back. and drilled several holes in the lid over the power board,, from what i have been reading the chinese caps are not cured right they are done to fast so replace with a japanese cap, will last 20 years. i got one at a local tv repair shop, they charged me 3.00 per cap, anything else just ask.

any of the green caps could be bad, i got a reconditioned dvr for 99.99 when i took out the power board i had seen where a cap was replaced to that is what they did, they just swapped out a cap and re sold it. the best way to tell is that the top will be bowed out, if the cap is not perfectly flat then it is bad. might be hard to tell. i did not see it the first time, if you want i would just replace all the caps with jap versions and be done with it. will last 20 years well the caps will at least, lol. and no did not notice the pos on the board sorry

You would be unsuccessful in this upgrade attempt. Even if you replaced the DVD writer with one that will support DL disks, the firmware running the DRA-01601A does not support DL disks, so you would have no way of requesting such an operation.

I remember reading somewhere in this thread that the DRA-01601A can play mpeg4 files. I have had no luck figuring out which mpeg4 format. I've tried files from my Neuros OSD with an .mp4 extension and the DRA-01601A can't see the files. I've changed the extension to .mpg and it sees them, but won't play them. Is it limited to divx/xvid files? If so, what extension should they be and are there any limits to the specifications of the files?
