I just saw something on the net about a new Toshiba DVD recorder with HDD, HD-DVD, DVD/-RAM and MPEG4 for 600euros.

Did I miss any other new HDD based dvd recorders from the last couple of months?

Not in the USA. The major Japanese manufacturers are still shipping new units to Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe (Panasonic has a HDD DVD recorder factory in the Slovak Republic). These units have TV tuners for several formats but not NTSC. They are incompatible with region 1 and they cannot record closed captions on line 21 of the vertical blanking interval. Outside of North America, subtitles are added to a broadcast differently, more like movie subtitle tracks.

So far, not a whisper about new HDD DVD recorders to appear at the 2008 CES in Las Vegas. Grim times for the HDD DVD recorder crowd.

Thanks! I don't recall recalling the Magnavox HDD model. I'll check it out!
