I am looking foward to purchasing the EZ27 but I have a question regarding the conectivity of the recorder if anyone could provide some insight. I have a 42" Panasonic Plasma w/ 2 HDMI ports (1 occupied by Directv DVR 1 PS3) To my knowledge they say you have to have the recorder connected via HDMI for it to upconvert OTA braodcast to HD (though not true HD but better than analog) but how would I be able to connect it with both ports being used would it be fine using component cables? How would it loo compared to HDMI? Will it be in 4:3 or 16:9 Or is there a way to connect the Directv DVR box to the EZ27 to the TV? How would that work? The main purpose for me getting the EZ27 is for the ATSC tuner mor than anything. Any input would be great. Thanks.

1. In my case, component was the same PQ as HDMI.
2. It will be 16X9 when viewing live. It will record squished 4x3, which you will need to unstretch, to fit your 16x9, when playing back the DVD. Looks fine after the unstretch.
3. Use s-video to connect your DVR to the EZ-27's line in.
4. Note the PQ viewing HD through the DVDR will not be nearly as good as watching directly from your direct TV box. (just thought I'd warn you) It will be 480, even though it may be upconverted, it still starts out 480. Please don't expect HD. Recordings of HD can be best described as HD lite. It's about as good as 480 can be though.
I really like my EZ machine for recording HD OTA. It's the best PQ DVDR I've seen.

If all you mainly want is an SD ATSC tuner, why don't you just apply for a $40.00 govt. coupon? The Model Echostar has coming out costs only $40.00 and will be free with the coupon.

www.dtv2009.gov.

You might want to wait a bit though, or at least only order one first, since they won't be sent out 'till March and you only get 90 days to use them. After that, they're void. So at least give it a little time as the boxes are supposed to start coming out soon, and there will at least be some reviews of them available.
