In other words, in wiring my tv and mounting it on the wall, is there any need to also run component out as well as hdmi out? Am I good by just running a single HDMI-out cable to the TV and foregoing a component out altogether? That would be easy if, say my Wii hooked up via component would output through the HDMI out port onto the tv.

Yeah, that will work with the 908. Its just video only when converting component to HDMI. You'll still need to connect audio cables from the Wii to the receiver.
