Hello all, I am planning on purchasing either an Onkyo 6100 or S7100 HTiB system.

I have a Cable HD DVR, PS3, Xbox 360 Elite, and maybe a Wii in the future. I was wanting to know how might I configure these devices with the Onkyo receiver and My HDTV(2 HDMI ports)? I want the sound to come through the system, but not all the time(sometimes I game at night when my G/F is in the other room sleeping and I want to just use the tv sound as opposed to the surround).

I heard the PS3 can do dual HDMI and optical sound, not sure about the 360. I want to use HDMI and optical connections if possible for cable and my gaming systems.

Run all equipment to the receiver ( the 6100 and 7100 have virtually the same receiver ) via HDMI ( there are 4 HDMI inputs ) and then into your TV with HDMI. The Onkyo has a 3-stage night time listening mode that works VERY well, so you won't have to have separate cables going to your TV. Just for information, on the PS3 you can use either HDMI or optical for your audio, but NOT BOTH, you must choose one or the other.

Sweet, thanks for steering me in the right direction, I was not aware of the night time modes.

As far as the audio on PS3, do you have any particular preference? or is there not much difference?

HDMI is better as it uses the better codecs when available, optical unfortunately can't use them. Honestly though, there isn't a huge difference either way. Even people with expensive setups probably would have trouble telling the difference between the two. But since you have the option to plug everything in with one cable each, you may as well go that route.

Yes, definitely go with the HDMI for the PS3.
