So SONY got me on an impluse I bought their 3D TV/HTIB/glasses/movies/games package deal. I think it's a good deal and seems like a loss leader to me just to get the technology out there. I'm not a usual early adopter, or an extreme audio file but do a decent amount of PS3 gaming.
Some free games and movies
for like 3000 total.
So my only problem with the package is there are no HDMI inputs. So the only option is HDMI out of the DVD and playstation to the TV then optical audio out to the receiver. I've been doing some research and that shows optical audio can not carry multi-channel audio (3 +) or the newer audio formats/standards.
So I see myself having 2 options.
1. Just deal with the disadvantage of no HDMI inputs, use optical and be happy. I imagine it will not sound bad at all, but just won't handle the top of the line now and especially going into the future.
2. Sell the HTIB w/o opening it, as well as my current used Samsung HTZ-520, and buy a HTIB setup that will do 3D and has HDMI inputs.
Any thoughts on Optical vs. HDMI being worth the sell and buy hassle? Guess a possible problem is there aren't too many choices for the 3D HTIB systems.
