I just worry that with it not being my name on the tigerdirect sales email confirmation that they wont accept it at the repair facility in Indianapolis. I don't want to drive 2 hrs from Dayton for nothing. Or should I not worry about the whole id thing? Is the only thing the repair facility will be looking for is a valid receipt to confirm it for warranty work?

I did. I bought a 100 foot roll of 16 gauge wire from Parts Express. Turns out I didn't have enough wire because my living room is too large. I wound up only having enough for a 5.1 setup. Very happy with my system other then the fact that the hdmi portion of my 680 receiver has apparently died.

What do you mean by "only getting 5.1 out of the system"?

I only had enough speaker wire to run a 5.1 setup. Now if only my hdmi would work so I could.take advantage of the higher audio formats Id be a happy guy. Thus far optical is getting me by.

Does anyone with this system feel there is a noticeable difference in sound quality output from a bluray disc between optical audio and hdmi audio?

What's goin on, people?

Just a lil over a month ago I was looking for suggestions regarding purchasing a HTIB, and ultimately decided to jump on the Onkyo HT-S7300, main reason being possible future upgrade options.

All works well so far as far as I can tell. HowEVER

I notice that the center speaker sounds extremely artificial. Almost sounds like the sound is coming out of a plastic box
The speaker as far as I know isn't defective. Music and gaming both sound pretty good.
The main problem is when watching a bluray or streaming Hulu content off the internet. (Anything that uses the center channel for speech)

The manual mentions a lot of functions (Dynamic Eq, Cinema modes etc.) but I can barely tell the difference when any of these are tweaked.

Is there a chance of replacing just THAT speaker to solve the problem, or is this something that will require a full replacement of both front ones as well (as that is usually the case when timbre matching speakers)?
Maybe tips on tweaking so that speech is less harsh??
I'd feel really crappy if after purchasing a very highly rated HTIB, Id have to take my entire system apart just because my center sound isn't up to par.

I can't imagine explaining this to gf who contributed to the purchase price.
Any suggestions on the ONE speaker replacement if it's even possible?

16AWG wire is good at 8 ohms for up to about 48 feet, then loss at higher frequencies starts to occur. Most people can't tell the difference because the frequencies are too high but at 70', 80', and higher who knows? Loss of fidelity may become noticeable. BTW, any 16AWG wire that is shielded will work, you don't need special "speaker wire". As to the question about High Speed HDMI vs optical, I don't believe that optical (toslink) can pass thru lossless audio so yes, there will be a difference in audio fidelity between the two, and if your wire is too long........

Odd to have that much of a center channel speaker issue with a supposedly "matched" set from the same vendor. I would use the EQ to tone down higher frequencies and/or lower volume for the center channel. Sometimes the sound mix from a DVD or BD disc is not what it should be.

Hey Phase,

Thanks for the reply.
I spent the larger part of this past weekend messing with the settings. Ran the Audyssey mic app again, and fiddled around with the Dynamic volume etc.
The manual is just pretty 'bland' when explaining it all and just gives a single sentence summing up what a specific feature does. The fact that there's no index either kinda blows.

I can say that it DOES sound better.
I did a few of the obvious things you mentioned: lowering volume etc, and I am somewhat of a beginner I'll admit, so lowering frequencies etc. does kinda throw me off a little. I'll post my latest findings as get them.
Thanks again.
