I'm hoping to have my home purchased by end of the year and I'd like to get a new sound system this winter to take advantage of the holiday prices for the new entertainment room.

With a budget of $800, should I go the HTIB route or choose my own speakers? I'm looking to purchase a mid range receiver that supports 7.1 for about $400-$500 and then spend the remaining on speakers (probably a 5.1 for now).

I'm looking for a HTIB with a regular receiver then one of those all-in-one bluray players.

Energy Take classics 5.1
or
Martin Logan MLT-2s

With a Denon AVR 1611. Easy money

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

I just bought this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290147 for $150.

To go with this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003P2...0977608&sr=8-5 $390

Plus this:
http://www.lavasubs.com/10_inch/powe...subwoofer.html $245 before 16% discount for avs members.

Should sound very good for a simple yet effective beginner HT.

I'm leaning towards the Denon 1611 (refurb), BIC F12 woofer and SLS 5.0 speaker set.

I have pieced it all together for 598.38 (including the iPod dock for the Denon)

Emotiva Ultra 12 - $329 was a $500 subwoofer... you will NOT find a better subwoofer for this price EVER (or a long time)

http://emotiva.com/ultra_sub12.shtm

Jamo 5.0 - $300

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._sku=544158919

the denon or pioneer

Also, spend most of your money on the speakers and subwoofer <---this is where sound quality comes from
