I have the old Pioneer speakers from the old Pioneer VSX-305 receiver, they are still good.
I am now using the newer Pioneer VSX-516 receiver.
When I connect the passive sub-woofer (HTP100-SW) like it shows on the back of the sub-woofer (front speakers to sub-woofer and from there to front connections on receiver), the sub-woofer doesn't work, only the front speakers work.
The center speaker works as it should when connected to the center speaker connection.
But when I connect the rear speakers to the Surround speaker connections on the receiver, they do not work either.
Anyone know what I should do?

What speaker setup did you do in the receiver? You do need to do that...you know, RTFM smile.gif http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_11221/297336630VSX516OperatingInstructions.pdf page 28.

PS I did the same just now, actually RTFM that is, and it is assuming when it says you have a subwoofer that you're using the sub preout with an active sub; you have a passive sub so you need to set your front L/R speakers to large as otherwise your avr has no idea you have a subwoofer connected....

I'll try that.
What about the rear speakers, how do I get them to work too? Do I use 5.1 speaker setting or 5.0 since the sub-woofer is passive? I only have the two front, two rear, center, and sub-woofer speakers.

Do the setup. You don't have a subwoofer as far as you're avr is concerned (i.e. there is no .1, i.e. the LFE channel, being used).
