I have a LG 42 LW65oo 3D TV which has HDMI/DVI IN 1 (ARC) and another three HDMI/DVI IN Ports(2,3 & 4). I also have a Sony 3D Bluray System BDV E880. This has a HDMI OUT ARC and two HDMI IN (1 & 2). I also want to connect this system to TataSky DTH cable connection. Tata Sky has got one HDMI port, one SPDIF Optical port and Audio OUT ( L & R ) and Video OUT connectors. The LG TV also has a Optical Digital Audio OUT port and Sony BDV E880 has a Digital Optical IN.
Presently LG TV HDMI/DVI IN2 is connected to Sony HTB (BDV E880) HDMI ARC OUT and HDMI/DVI IN4 to Tata Sky HDMI. Tata Sky DTH Audio OUT (L & R) is connected to Sony HTB Audio IN (L & R). As such presently HDMI/DVI IN1 (ARC) of LG TV and Digital optical port of TV,HTB and DTH are not utilised. So kindly suggest me the Best connection scheme for Best Audio-Video.

Are you doing 3D video from Tata Sky and, if so, does the Sony BD system support 3D pass through?

If you don't need to attach the Tata box directly to the TV for 3D...
> Connect The Sony BD to the LG using any of the TV's HDMI inputs
> Connect Tata to the Sony receiver using HDMI

If you do need to attach Tata directly to the TV for 3D...
> Connect The Sony BD to the LG using any of the TV's HDMI inputs
> Connect Tata to one of the LG HDMI inputs for video
> Connect Tata to the Sony receiver using optical for audio

If your LG is a Smart TV with apps, you have two choices...
> A. Connect Sony to LG HDMI 1 and use ARC to feed audio from the TV to the sound system
> B. Connect LG to Sony using optical to feed audio from the TV to the sound system

Thanks a lot. The Sony does support 3D pass (it’s a 3D Blu-ray HTB) but Tata Sky is not telecasting any 3D programs as yet though it is there in their manifesto (soon to be). Also my LG TV is a smart TV and is connected to the net. Considering this would the following work best for me?
> Connect Sony to LG HDMI 1 and use ARC to feed audio from the TV to the sound system
> Connect Tata to one of the LG HDMI inputs for video
> Connect Tata to the Sony receiver using optical for audio

That wouldn't be my choice.

Why use two seperate connections for Tata when one will do the same thing? I'd connect Tata to the AVR using HDMI.

As for ARC, it depends on how well it works for you. ARC can be flaky. If it works well without other undesirable consequences, then use it. Otherwise, try the optical connection from TV to AVR, which is a second cable, but works just fine for everyone.
