I purchased one of these all in one Pioneer HTP-522 receiver and speaker combos today. I set it up tonight and I'm having a couple of issues:

1. My blu-rays aren't picking up the sound properly, it's only transmitting stereo over HDMI to the receiver, ie. no DTS or DD... not sure what the issue is here. It's a new HDMI cable purchased today. I have a Sony blu-ray player (BDP-S590)

2. Subwoofer pick up issues. The sub only picks up properly when playing a blu-ray, and even then only after a few seconds. When trying to play a DVD, or a game on the Xbox 360 (through HDMI), radio there is nothing coming through the subwoofer at all.

I've come from an older style home theatre receiver without HDMI (using optical to get DD and DTS) so may be missing a simple step I'm not aware of.

Overall I like the look of this unit, but if I can't fix these issues, looks like a deal breaker.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Go to bluray player setup menu and turn on all the digital sound options, specially the ones that pass thru HDMI.

There was a setting under audio, to enable HDMI Auto, there was an option Auto, and an option for PCM.. currently set to Auto.

What are the other audio output settings on the Sony Blu-ray player? HDMI Auto is correct, but others may be wrong. It is also possible that an HDMI audio connection from the sound system to the TV is telling the player to send stereo instead of multichannel audio.

Have you played the test tones on the receiver to make sure it is properly outputting to all channels, including the sub, and at the same levels?

What types of audio are you playing when the sub doesn't seem to work? 5.1 sources have content in the .1 LFE channel. Stereo doesn't have a .1 channel and the sub will only be engaged if you are using bass management, which steers low frequencies from the full range channels to the sub.

Audio HDMI
DSD Output Mode
BD Audio Mix Setting
Bitstream
DTS NEO
Audio DRC
Downmix

I'm going to run the auto config tool again tonight when I get home

Well I've tried FM Radio which is stereo, but have enabled the Dolby PL option which should push into all channels, Xbox games which have DD 5.1 and DVDs (both DD 5.1 and DTS)

Yeah, have an HDMI Cable from TV to receiver, then HDMI cable from receiver to blu-ray player.

You need to list the settings you are actually using, not just the categories. frown.gif

OK, well I managed to get the majority of my issues resolved. I changed the BD Audio Mix setting and I'm now getting proper HD streams through to my receiver.

I re-ran the speaker setup and got the sub enabled, however my only remaining issue is that it can take a few seconds for the sub to kick in, as though it's waiting for some bassy sounds to come through to tell it to turn on. I've changed the X-over setting on the receiver so more bass gets sent to the sub..

An example of this is you hear the Fox logo at the start of a film, and there's no bass.. then you'll hear the music of the start of the film, and there will be a bassy part and the sub will then kick in.

Has anybody else experienced this kind of behaviour?

Cheers

Your reciever must have some kind of speaker distance setting enabled. Make sure that the distances for every speaker is accurate.

Does this happen at the start of all programs or only on the first one after powering up? If the latter, is your sub always on or does it auto sense the presence of content to be played?

It does have distance setting on.. it's all been set automatically by the mic initially.. can that cause delay in sub starting?

It's on all programs. It'll be fine, I'll put in another disc and it will do the same thing again. I think it's auto sensing.

I wouldn't think so.
