Greetings all. Very nice site y'all have here. I'm a long time car audio guy who's now looking to invest a bit in my home audio; however, I want to start with the kiddie pool so to speak and only go 2.1 for ease and functionality. The TV is used primarily for HDTV-Movies, but also for gaming and music. I have heard the Bose Cinemate Series II and was interested for around $400. I'm finding that Bose is the Kicker of the home audio world (many folks dislike them simply because they're Bose) but I wanted to see what others said to narrow down my list to research more. This will be going in a living room (17 x 20) with seating about 10 ft from the TV. Many thanks for taking the time to help out.

Do you already have a AV receiver or are you completely starting from scratch?

That puts you at 450.00 with no subwoofer, but you'll get plenty of bass out of these speakers in the mean time. At your budget, I think these are a pretty good deal, I've owned the receiver and a smaller version of the speakers and I honestly believe they're pretty decent for the price (and you can probably find'm cheaper elsewhere). I only say this as I have owned the gamut of speakers (floorstanding, bookshelf, sound bar), and in my experience the sound quality provided by a big floor standing speaker just can't be beat.

You could get small bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer, but... I'd just hold off on the subwoofer for now. At the end of the day, there are other speakers at this price range that are similar, and audio is a moderately subjective thing, so I'd head on out and listen to as much stuff as you can and figure out what you like best - I would just recommend you definitely give full size speakers a chance.

Although, if you really want 5.1 sound, then you should buy a 5.1 receiver now for your planned upgrades - and then also choose your speakers you buy now accordingly (are they part of a set, so you can buy matching center and rears down the line?).

Thanks for taking the time to look those items up. I've had floor speakers before (18" Pioneers) and enjoyed them. However, in car audio lingo, I'm looking for a stealth install. When I decide to upgrade to 5.1, this 2.1 will go in our bedroom and I will run wires, etc.
