Hi all I have a lg 5.1 system

and a lg 47lm6200 3dtv

What would be the best way to set it up hdmi from tv to receiver then plug my Blu-ray in to the receiver

or plug the Blu-ray in to the tv and use a optical cable to the receiver

You get the best audio by connecting the BD player directly to the receiver.

The simple way is connect the blu-ray player to the avr. Connect the avr to the tv and then connect the optical out from the tv to the optical in of the avr, and then turn the speakers off on the tv. Use Certified High Speed HDMI cables ( and you don't need to use the grossly over-priced "M" brand). That way, any audio from a blu-ray/DVD will be played thru the HTS. You didn't mention how you have your tv connected so again, a simple coax connection to the Cable/Ant input on the tv will send the audio thru the optical to the avr and you can listen to discrete 5.1 if you use the internal ATSC tuner of the tv (that's how I have my LG setup). Basically all audio, regardless of source, is played thru the avr and all you have to do is select the correct input.
