Hello all,
I am setting up a Pioneer HTP-071 AVR with a Visio M3D550KD HD 3D TV with 4 HDMI inputs.

All connections at this point are HDMI and cables with Audio Return other than the DVD player.

The Visio TV is connect via HDMI 1 (ARC) to the HDMI OUT (ARC) on the AVR.

The Directv box is connected to the HDMI CD/SAT on the AVR.

The Bluray player is connected to the HDMI BD IN on the AVR.

The DVD player is connected to the HDMI DVD IN on the AVR.

All components work as they should.

What I would like to also be able to do is watch TV with the Directv box and use the TV speakers without the AVR turned on. This is something I cannot do because the Directv box is plugged into the AVR.

So my question is what would be the best way to rewire this so I have the choice of watching TV with the Directv box using the AVR speakers or the TV speakers with the AVR turned off?

Regards,
Bert

The feature you are looking for is HDMI standby pass through. Don't know if your receiver offers this as it is a Home Theater in a Box system.

After quickly looking thru the manual it doesn't look like your receiver offers this feature.

So your best option is to connect the DirecTV box straight to the TV via HDMI so you can watch TV w/o the receiver on. And also connect an optical cable from the DirecTV box to the receiver for when you want to use the receiver for audio.

HDMI audio and optical audio is the same for a DirecTV box. You'll be able to get Dolby Digital 5.1 with either connection.

Thanks for the info Afro GT. I'll order an optical cable and rewire. Will let you know how it turns out.
